What is a Newel Post Cladding Kit?

A newel post cladding kit is a four-sided timber wrap that fits over an existing newel post, transforming its appearance without the disruption of removing the structural post itself. Each kit in our range contains four pre-cut cladding panels and a matching cap, designed to assemble around posts up to 90mm thick.

Because the original newel stays in place, the structural integrity of your staircase isn’t affected by the upgrade. The cladding panels add a slim layer around the existing post, producing a clean, square-profiled finish that looks like a brand-new newel, but with none of the joinery work involved in a full replacement.

When to Use a Newel Post Cladding Kit

Cladding kits are designed for staircase refurbishment projects where the structural posts are sound but the appearance has dated. Rather than going through the cost and disruption of cutting out and replacing the entire newel, the kit lets you update the look in an afternoon.

Typical uses include:

• Refreshing turned or moulded newels into a contemporary square profile
• Updating older staircases as part of a wider hallway renovation
• Coordinating mismatched posts after a partial staircase repair
• Pairing with our stair tread cladding for a complete staircase refresh without removing the staircase itself

The kit suits both oak and pine staircase schemes and can be finished to match adjoining handrails, baserails or balustrades. Because the cladding sits flush around the existing post, the kit is also a good fit for tight stairwells where a full replacement would be difficult to manoeuvre.
