45mm Mopstick Handrail

From: £5.66 (£6.79 inc. VAT)

A mopstick handrail is a wall-mounted stair rail with a classic circular profile, 45mm in diameter, with a 20mm flat on the underside for fixing securely to wall brackets.

Unlike a pig’s ear handrail, which screws directly to the wall, a mopstick rail is supported by wall-mounted brackets, making it easy to position at the correct height.

The mopstick profile is one of the most widely used handrail styles in the UK, suited to both traditional and contemporary interiors. It can be used on staircases, landings and corridors wherever a wall-mounted handrail is required.

Available in two timber options:

Pine Mopstick – solid softwood, ideal for painting

Oak Mopstick – two-part oak construction, finger-jointed in the length. Natural colour variations may occur.

Brackets are required for installation and are sold separately. Our wall-mounted handrail brackets are available in Black, Brushed Steel, Chrome and Brass finishes to complement any interior.

All handrails are supplied unfinished (shown with a clear varnish for photography purposes only), available in three lengths: 600mm, 2100mm and 4200mm.

Description

What is a Mopstick Handrail?

A mopstick handrail is a traditional circular-profile wall rail, named for its resemblance to the handle of a mop. It is one of the most common styles of wall-mounted handrail used on domestic staircases in the UK, valued for its simple, clean appearance and comfortable grip.

A mopstick handrail is mounted on the wall using brackets. This means it sits proud of the wall at a consistent distance, creating a comfortable gap between the rail and the wall for a secure handhold.

The 20mm flat on the underside of the rail allows it to sit stably on the bracket saddle without rotating, keeping the rail in position once fixed.

Where Can a Mopstick Handrail Be Used?

Mopstick handrails are suitable for straight stair flights, landings, hallways and loft conversions. Because they are bracket-mounted, they can be fitted to most wall types and are straightforward to install on an angle to follow the pitch of a staircase.

They can be used as the primary handrail on a staircase or added to an existing staircase to improve safety and accessibility. Available in a choice of lengths, they can be cut to size on site for a custom fit.
