How to Choose the Design Of Your Staircase

Straight Flight

Ideal for simple, space-efficient designs with no change in direction. Well suited to smaller rooms or standard layouts.

Winder Stairs

Designed for tighter spaces where a compact turn is required. A practical solution when space is limited.

Quarter Landing

Provides a 90° turn and a natural break in the flight, making taller staircases easier and more comfortable to use.

Half Landing

Breaks up longer flights and creates a balanced, segmented design. Commonly used in multi-storey homes.

T-Shape & Unusual Staircases

T-shaped staircases and other non-standard layouts are handled separately from the main staircase builder. If your staircase design doesn’t fit the standard categories, or you’re looking for a T-shape configuration, please use the dedicated enquiry link so we can review your requirements correctly.

How Our Staircase Builder Works

Once you’ve chosen a staircase layout, the builder allows you to customise key elements of your staircase to suit your space. You’ll enter your measurements, select materials, and choose details such as newel posts and balustrading.

The builder generates an accurate quotation based on the information you provide. All designs are reviewed, and full drawings are supplied for approval before manufacture, ensuring your staircase is produced exactly as agreed.

How Your Staircase Will Be Manufactured

Every staircase we produce is made to order and handcrafted using high-quality timbers. Once your design has been reviewed and approved, all components are manufactured in-house, including stringers, treads, and stair components.

We offer a wide range of established newel post and spindle designs. The staircase builder shows a core selection, but additional options are available. You can view the full range of materials and components on our timber range page.

Each component is carefully measured, cut, and assembled to ensure strength, accuracy, and long-term durability.

Building Regulations & Compliance

The staircase builder is designed to produce staircases that meet domestic building regulations. It is not intended to represent staircases that comply with commercial building regulations, which typically require longer flights and shallower pitches. Any dimensions shown in the builder should not be considered representative of commercial staircase requirements.

We can also manufacture staircases that do not meet current regulations, which is often necessary for older properties where existing layouts cannot be altered to modern standards.

Staircase Builder FAQs

Can I customise materials for my staircase?

Yes. You can select timber types and key design features directly in the builder. The builder does not display every available option, so if you have specific requirements, these can be reviewed once your enquiry is submitted.

Does the builder include finishing products?

We do not supply finishing products. However, a white priming service is available on pine staircases for an additional cost.

How accurate is the online quote?

The quote generated by the builder is based on the measurements and selections you provide. All designs are checked and full drawings are supplied for approval before manufacturing begins.

Are the staircases compliant with building regulations?

Staircases designed through the builder are intended to meet domestic building regulations. Where compliance is not possible or not required, such as in older properties, we can manufacture staircases to suit existing conditions.

What happens after I submit my design?

Once submitted, your design is reviewed and full drawings are provided for approval. Manufacturing only begins after you have signed off the final design, ensuring accuracy and clarity at every stage.

Can I order additional components?

Yes. Additional components such as newel posts, spindles or landing materials can be included as part of your quotation where required.
