Baserails form the foundation of your staircase, so choosing the right one is key to both stability and style. 

For more traditional staircases, baserails with infills provide a solid base for timber spindles and add a chic touch to the overall design. 

Grooved baserails are ideal for contemporary staircases with glass panels or metal spindles, giving a clean finish while remaining strong and reliable. Ungrooved baserails can be used with complementing metal spindles or glass brackets, providing a stylish foundation that works with both traditional and modern staircase designs.

Baserail FAQs

How do I install a baserail?

To install your baserail, measure along the staircase and mark where the baserail will sit. Cut the baserail to length and fix it securely to the staircase or floor. Once installed this can then be readily used to slot in spindles or panels, ensuring a stable, level foundation.

How do I replace an existing baserail?

Remove the old baserail carefully, then fit a new one in the same position, checking that it is level and fully supported before securing spindles or panels.

How do I position the baserail on stairs?

A baserail should follow the pitch line of your staircase and sit securely on top of the stringer, or sit level on top of the landing nosing. They should provide enough clearance for spindles or panels to be fitted, helping ensure the staircase is strong and safe.

Do baserails come with infill?

All grooved baserails are provided with infill panels to make fitting spindles, metal or glass easy and professional. Ungrooved baserails are not provided with infill.
